Our journey began in 2014 when our founder created her very first wedding broom for her own ceremony. From that moment, she knew she’d found her calling. The joy of creating something meaningful and impactful for her own wedding inspired her to share that same experience with others.

At Pretty Prints Etc., we specialize in crafting exquisite wedding brooms for African American wedding ceremonies and elegant brooms for Jewish Mezinka dances.

Jumping the Broom

The tradition of jumping the broom has deep roots in African American culture, symbolizing commitment and resilience. Dating back to slavery in the United States, it represented the enduring bond between enslaved couples denied legal marriage.

Mezinka Broom Dance

In addition to the rich history of jumping the broom in African American culture, the tradition of the Mezinke/Mizinke/Mezinka broom holds significance in Orthodox Jewish weddings, particularly during the Mezinke dance ceremony.

During a period when the institution of marriage was systematically denied to enslaved individuals, jumping the broom became a powerful symbol of love and unity. It was a way for couples to publicly declare their commitment to one another in the absence of legal recognition.

The Mezinke dance celebrates the marriage of a couple’s last unmarried child, typically the youngest daughter, as she enters into wedded bliss. It is a joyous occasion marked by lively music, dancing, and heartfelt blessings.
